An overview of composing and playing in Rheos

It seems we’re told endlessly to “increase efficiency” and “boost productivity”, but we all know creativity is fundamentally about play. With every decision, Rheos shifts the focus from production to creation.

Focus on composition

Orchestration and instrument assignment in the piano roll

Focus only on the musical idea at hand. No jumping around copy-pasting tracks to hear different instrumentations, just select the notes and assign a sound. You always see exactly what you’re doing, with your eyes on the musical material in front of you.

Exploring musical ideas across the workspace and material editors

The Rheos workspace is a low-pressure, exploratory sketchpad for collecting ideas. None of the implicit blank-page pressure of an empty DAW session or score template. Try things out, give them a listen, and file them away or mark them for use later. Super simple drag-and-drop of MIDI to your DAW makes working between platforms a breeze.

Low-pressure creative workspace

“…should the impossible happen and my work suddenly be given to me in a perfectly completed form, I should be embarrassed and nonplussed by it, as by a hoax.”

Drawing gesture masks, generating motifs, and transforming musical material

No text prompts, no full-song generation, and no vast, ethically dodgy training data. Rheos’ Gesture Engine is a hands-on approach to generative ML for creative musicians and creators. Our proprietary engine uses Gottfried Michael Koenig’s idea of the “tendency mask” as a conceptual container for steering generative outputs and transformations. You generate the shape and control tendencies. Nothing is handed over. You are in control.

A closer look at the modular Rheos workspace

Rheos is a modular platform, designed to provide the functions you need, when you need them. Customize your atelier for the way you work and the ideas you want to explore. Feature releases are also scoped by functionality, so you don’t pay for “upgrades” you’ll never use. If a feature is offered that helps your process, pick it up. If it doesn’t, skip it.
